At sunrise in the Sea of Cortez, the first light paints the sky as Mobula munkiana rays begin their acrobatic dance. These agile rays breach spontaneously, leaping up to two meters, a mesmerizing display of energy and grace. Kayaking quietly in the early morning calm, I captured this fleeting moment. The dark silhouette of the mobula against the sky reminded me of the Bat-Insignia. As one of my favorite species to photograph, their unpredictable leaps and interactions bring me joy. Facing growing threats, these Near Threatened rays remind us of the ocean’s fragile beauty at dawn.
