As a wildlife photographer I pride myself in spending hours finding an animal to photograph, whether on land or underwater. I felt like I was cheating when I took this photo. I was visiting my cousin in West Palm Beach, Florida, where sandhill cranes often are seen during their migration. I asked if there had been any cranes around their community recently, and there had been. I wandered around behind the gates and among the various ponds and neighborhoods in their complex, in a very busy subdivision. Luckily, there were a pair of cranes close to the clubhouse, near the pool, the school bus stop, the playground, hanging lazily by the edge of a small pond. I approached cautiously, and was permitted to get close enough to grab this close up of a beautiful eye!
