Each spring and summer, vast schools of Mobula munkiana gather in the Sea of Cortez to feed, mate, and give birth. These agile “devil rays” are famous for their acrobatic leaps, sometimes soaring six feet above the water. At sunrise, I paddled out in my kayak, hoping to capture their breathtaking flight. Their jumps are unpredictable, making photography a challenge—but when you catch a moment like this, it’s pure magic.
