Stonefish are masters of camouflage and blend so perfectly on the reef that even scuba divers have a hard time seeing them. Sitting still on the rocky reef, their colors are almost always a perfect match to the substrate. Stonefish use their crafty camo to elude their predators, but primarily their clever disguise is mechanism for hiding from prey. Rather lazy, they do not chase their meals, instead they hide in plain sight and ambush unsuspecting reef fish and other bottom dwellers to make a tasty meal. Their disguise is so masterful it is often difficult to determine where the stonefish ends and the reef begins.
