About 90 minutes from Salt Lake City, along the Pony Express trail in the Utah desert lives the Onaqui Herd of wild horses. I spent five days following and photographing these magnificent horses, stallions clashing, mares nursing new foals, families bonding. Taking a stand for dominance and for space, stallions often spar for dominance, biting, kicking and exploding in bursts of fierce combat. In this scene, two stallions clashed on the perimeter of the herd, teeth bared, dust flying in a dramatic showdown.
