Pygmy in Pink

from $850.00

Limited Edition of 25 per size

As their name suggests, pygmy seahorses are tiny fish that are nearly indistinguishable from their gorgonian coral habitat due to their size and extreme camouflage. Pygmy seahorses grow to an average size of .50 - 1 inch, making them extremely difficult to find, let alone photograph. It is thought that these tiny ocean dwellers are monogamous, and as is with other seahorse species, the male is responsible for brooding the eggs before hatching up to 30 young.

Like many other species in the ocean, the pygmy seahorse is threatened by habitat loss, acidification of the ocean, and rising temperatures. Indiscriminate fishing practices like gillnetting and blast fishing as well as climate change destroys the coral reef, taking the seahorses with it.
