Still Life of Fan

from $850.00

Limited Edition of 25 prints per size

When we think of sea fans, like this Gorgonia Ventalina, we often mistake them for plants. These glorious sea fans are part of the animal kingdom, a soft coral that relies on a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae - algae that lives on it providing nutrients via photosynthetic activity. They are nocturnal and carnivorous feeders, extending their polyps from their skeleton to catch and consume zooplankton. Like all animals, these fans can also get sick, often attacked by fungus precipitated by warming oceans causing disease and death.
